St. Francis, Timon, St. Joe's, O'Hara and St. Mary's football schedules unveiled

Teams may be preparing for spring sports but football season is around the corner.

A day after Section VI released its master schedule for the 2017 season the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association has done the same.

MMHSAA runner-up St. Francis will play its first three games at Polian Family Field and six of its nine for the regular-season at home. Five of them will be under the prime-time lights beginning with the Sept. 2 opener against McDowell of Erie, Pa., at 7 p.m. The Red Raiders' last regular-season home game is at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 against Canisius in a rematch of last year's playoff final.

Bishop Timon-St. Jude once again will play a daunting schedule that includes four straight road games to start, including its opener at national power Buford (Ga.). The Tigers then make trips to Central Catholic (Ohio), Canisius and Permian (Texas). They play their first home game Sept. 29 against Rochester Aquinas.

Defending state Catholic champion Canisius also released its schedule Wednesday, a day after announcing it would do just that on Twitter.

Other items of note from the MMHSAA schedule:

-- Cardinal O'Hara heads to Baltimore for its opener against Mount St. Joe's.

-- St. Mary's of Lancaster has a tough test to start the season against state semifinalist Bishop Kearney of Rochester.

-- At the moment, St. Joe's will face a still to be determined foe at a site to be determined in Week One. The Marauders square off against O'Hara in Week Two at the Robert T. Scott Complex.

-- MMHSAA teams may not face any Section VI schools this season but have 13 nonleague games slated against nearby Rochester Section V opponents. While state power Aquinas faces each of the four large schools (Canisius, St. Francis, St. Joe's and Timon) as per usual, University Prep, Batavia, Honeoye Falls-Lima, Bishop Kearney and Pittsford also agreed to games against various members of the six-team league.

-- Quarterfinal games are the weekend of Nov. 3-4 with the top two seeds receiving byes. Semifinals are the following week with the title game slated for the third week in November. Higher seeds host quarterfinal- and semifinal-round games.

-- The MMHSAA champion faces its New York counterpart for the state Catholic championship on a still to be determined date at a venue also to be determined. The Monsignor Martin is the host this season.
