Unreadable license plate leads to drug and traffic charges

A Town of Tonawanda man driving with an unreadable license plate on Hertel Avenue Saturday night is facing traffic and drug charges, Buffalo police said.

Michael Wright, 38, of Woodward Avenue, is charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, aggravated unlicensed driving and an improper license plate infraction.

Police said a vehicle driven by Wright was stopped at Hertel and East Street about 7:30 p.m., when officers spotted a bag of cocaine and a cigarette pack containing three marijuana blunts. Wright's driver's license also was suspended because of 15 traffic-related scofflaw charges, police added.
