Hoyt Street man arrested in aftermath of violent break-in

A Hoyt Street man was arrested about 11 a.m. Sunday outside the home of a Herkimer Street woman he attacked during an earlier break-in, Buffalo police said.

Miguel Cortes, 23, is charged felony second-degree burglary, criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault and second-degree harassment. Currently he is in the Erie County Holding Center.

Police said Cortes forced his way into the woman's home and attacked her – punching, biting and choking her – when she demanded that he leave.
