Brockport driver accused of striking pedestrian on Route 33 in Stafford

STAFFORD – A Brockport woman is facing charges after striking a pedestrian and then a utility pole about 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Route 33, Genesee County Sheriff's deputies said.

Katelyn Brown, 23, is charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, moving from a lane unsafely and failing to use due care approaching a pedestrian.

The victim, an unidentified woman, was struck by the westbound car and thrown into a ditch. She was taken to University of Rochester Medical Center for treatment of what were described as serious injuries.

Brown initially said she drove into the utility pole after witnessing another vehicle hit the woman, said deputies, who later determined that claim was false. The investigation is continuing.

Deputies surrendered Brown to Ogden Police on an arrest warrant in an unrelated case in that Monroe County community. Ogden police could not be reached Sunday night.
