Class D girls basketball state semifinal capsule

Who: VI-Panama Panthers (19-5) vs. IV-South Kortright Rams (22-0).

What: New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association Tournament final four.

When: Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

NYS Sportswriters Rankings: South Kortright is ranked No. 1 in the poll. Panama is third.

How they got here: Panama reached its third straight final four by defeating private school Batavia Notre Dame of Section V, 49-40. Two third-year starters played key roles in the Panthers winning for the 12th time in 13 games. Sophomore Madalyn Bowen poured in 17 points while freshman Natalie Angeletti added 12. Panama went from unranked in last week's state poll to No. 3 in the recently released one.

South Kortright followed up its Section IV championship triumph by defeating SS Seward of Section IX, 55-22, in regionals. Lexi DuBois led the winners with 17 points as the Rams bolted to a 17-6 lead through one quarter and cruised to victory.

Panama key players: Freshman Natalie Angeletti, 5-11 (15.1 ppg., 11.9 rpg.), sophomore Madalyn Bowen, 5-6 (12.5, 3.5), senior Nicole Johnson, 5-11 (11.1, 8.8), senior Tara Sweeney, 5-7 (5.0 ppg.), junior Lauren Barmore, 5-6 (5.3 ppg.).

South Kortright scout report: The Rams have reached the final four for the fifth time in the past 10 years. They are paced by two who surpassed the 1,000-career-points milestone earlier this season in 5-9 senior DuBois and classmate Brianna Laing. DuBois is an athletic do-everything player who will play soccer at Hartwick. Laing is averaging 16 points per over the past four games, while DuBois is at 14.3 in that span. Bella DuBois scored 13 points in a 50-41 Section IV final win over Delhi.

Next: The winner advances to Sunday's final at 10 a.m. against either two-time defending champion X-Heuvelton or VII-Moriah.
