Point guard Howard Washington, a Buffalo native who was a standout at City Honors and Canisius, has committed to play college basketball at Syracuse next season.

Washington, a lifelong Syracuse basketball fan, announced his decision on Twitter. The 6-foot-3 Washington plays at Athlete Institute, a prep school in Mono, Ontario.

“It feels great,” Washington said in a text to Syracuse.com. “I am excited to get to ‘Cuse.”

Washington played at City Honors as an eighth-grader before spending two years at Canisius, earning second-team All-Western New York honors as a sophomore.

He then spent two seasons at Montverde Academy in Florida before moving to Athlete Institute in Canada. Washington, whose mother is Canadian, has dual citizenship and has played internationally for Canada.

In June 2015, between his junior and senior seasons at Montverde, Washington verbally committed to Butler; he later de-committed.
