Letter: If you don’t want child then use birth control

If you don’t want child then use birth control

While there are exceptions to every rule in life, the one that separates pro-life advocates and women’s rights advocates has left me confused. As I see it, in this day and age, there is no reason for a woman to become pregnant if she doesn’t want to. If you are old enough to have sex, then you should be old enough to take precautions so you don’t become pregnant. It is the responsible thing to do. Sex was meant to procreate, so if you don’t want a child then make sure that you don’t get pregnant. That also goes for men, but unfortunately the larger responsibility will always remain on the woman. It is her body that carries the child.

Which brings me to my next point. An embryo is a living organism that eventually develops into a child. Without it being alive, it can’t develop into a child. Even though Assemblywoman Deborah Glick tells us that the state of New York has deemed that only a baby who has taken a breath has rights, I strongly disagree. Who gave the state the right to decide what is “alive” and what isn’t? There is only one thing opposite of life and that is death. This is not a religious issue, even though there are strong opinions on the religious level, but this is a moral one.

The women’s rights advocates want control over their bodies. By all means, take control over your body. They want to be able to decide what they would do if pregnancy occurred. Have responsible sex or abstain; then you won’t have to worry about becoming pregnant.
