Volunteers with rakes, shovels and ratchet wrenches are needed to build the new Village of Hamburg community playground on Prospect Avenue in April and May.
The community build will take place in morning and afternoon shifts on April 29 and May 5 and 6. Contractors will install concrete walkways, stone base and the rubber safety surfacing and landscaping in May after the community build.
About 75 to 80 volunteers are needed for each shift on April 29; 50 to 60 volunteers are needed each shift on May 5; and 100 to 125 volunteers are needed for both shifts on May 6. Shifts will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2 to 7 p.m. Snacks, beverages and lunch will be provided.
Organizers have asked volunteers to sign up online at the Hamburg Community Playground website.
The grand opening of the $450,000 playground is scheduled for late May.
Crews started dismantling the village's iconic wooden playground in December, after it was determined that the 25-year-old playground had come to the end of its natural life.
