Gerald Stroud, 31, of Buffalo, was cleared of a felony drug charge Thursday afternoon after his attorneys proved in Amherst Town Court that drugs that police claimed they had found in his vehicle were actually residue from a rug cleaning that was done after his pet dog urinated in the car.
Stroud, who had been held without bail since his March 3 arrest on the I-290, was ordered released from custody by Justice Kara A. Buscaglia after prosecutors dismissed the felony drug charge and relatives of Stroud posted bail on traffic violation charges against him.
Prosecutors declined to comment following the court session.
Stroud is due back in court April 19 for a hearing on the traffic charges. Stroud faces other charges in Buffalo City Court, according to his attorneys, Samuel P. Davis and TheArthur A. Duncan.
