A pedestrian crossing Niagara Falls Boulevard at Maple Road was struck by a car late Tuesday night, leaving him with a serious leg injury and injuries to his head, Amherst Police Capt. Patrick McKenna of the Accident Investigation Unit said.
Anthony A. Rausch, 34, of Tonawanda was crossing the north side of the intersection of Niagara Falls boulevard from east to west just before 11 p.m. when he was struck while in the third lane, police said.
"He was not crossing with the light but he was in or very close to the crosswalk," McKenna said in his statement.
A 2009 Chevrolet driven by Justin M. Poole, 20, of Tonawanda was northbound in the far left lane when it hit Rausch. Police said the traffic light was green for northbound traffic.
"The intersection was dark and the pavement was wet from light rain at the time of the incident," McKenna said.
Rausch was taken to Erie County Medical Center for his injuries.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Amherst police at (716) 689-1311.
