Town of Tonawanda Republicans select new party leader

Chuck Sankey elected new GOP chairman in Town of Tonawanda

The Town of Tonawanda Republican Committee has voted in new leadership and plans to use social media to counter the hold on elected town offices held by Democrats.

Chuck Sankey was unanimously selected to serve as chairman of the Republican Committee. He will fill the remainder of the term of previous chairman Sean O'Neil, who stepped down last month.

Sankey said he was "looking forward to getting Republicans back into power on the town board in November." The Town Board, supervisor and highway superintendent are all currently Democrats.

Sankey said he plans to bolster the ranks of the GOP using its website, kentongop.com. He also said in his announcement that he plans to use social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to reach out to young families and potential new voters.

"We'll use every tool in arsenal to engage our younger residents and to get our message out," wrote Sankey. "That message is simple, get involved and help make a difference."
