Batavia woman killed as van leaves Route 77, hits a tree in Genesee County

TOWN OF ALABAMA -- A passenger was killed Monday when a vehicle left Route 77 and struck a tree in Genesee County, according to State Police.

Karen Mann, 56, of Batavia, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Mann was riding in the backseat of a vehicle that was traveling north on Route 77 shortly before 2 p.m. when the 40-year-old driver had a medical event that caused the vehicle to leave the east shoulder of the road and strike a tree, State Police said.

The driver of the vehicle and two other passengers in the vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The name of the driver was not released.

The accident was under investigation.
