Motoriswts traveling the Thruway between the Rochester and Palmyra exits can expect periodic slowdowns starting Monday as National Grid replaces overhead utility lines that cross I-90 between exits 43 (Manchester – Palmyra – NY Route 21) and 44 (Canandaigua – Victor – NY Route 332).
The work will require traffic slowdowns lasting no more than 15 minutes on both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Thruway, officials said.
There will be one slowdown beginning at noon Monday; three slowdowns beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday; four slowdowns beginning at 6:30 a.m. Saturday; and four slowdowns beginning at 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
The eastbound slowdowns will begin at the rest area at milepost 353 between exits 46 (Rochester – Corning – I-390) and 45 (Rochester – Victor – I-490). The westbound slowdowns will begin at milepost 340.51 at exit 43 (Manchester – Palmyra – NY Route 21).
New York State Police Troop T and Thruway Traffic Safety personnel will be on site coordinating the slowdowns while National Grid completes their work.
Since Feb. 27, the Thruway Authority has utilized Variable Message Boards in the area to inform motorists of the scheduled work. These digital messages will be updated to alert motorists prior to each planned slowdown.
