What to watch for Friday

1. Boys basketball - Section VI finals at Jamestown CC

Class D: 3-Franklinville vs. 4-Sherman, 5:15 p.m.

The first Section VI basketball champion of the season will be crowned when Franklinville and Sherman meet for the Class D crown. Both teams won blowout semifinal games to get here, the Panthers 66-48 over 2-Ellicottville and the Wildcats 56-36 over 1-Clymer. Sherman's Chris Robson (24.4 ppg) and Franklinville's Ben Erickson (22 ppg) are among the top scorers in Section VI.

Class C-2: 1-Randolph vs. 2-East, 6:45 p.m.

The matchup predicted by many before the season even started has come to fruition, as Randolph and East battle it out for the Class C-2 title. These two teams met once already this season, a 63-52 Panthers win. East got 22 points from Justin Allen and 21 from Willard Anderson that game, while Randolph freshman Tyler Hind scored a team-high 21.

Class C-1: 1-Chautauqua Lake vs. 2-Cleveland Hill, 8:15 p.m.

The top two seeds in the Class C-1 bracket battle it out in the nightcap at JCC for a spot in next Tuesday's Overall Class C final at Buffalo State. The Thunderbirds feature the only 600-point scorer in Section VI in junior Devin Pope (28.2 ppg). Paul Woodward is the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles at 14.7 ppg.

2. Girls basketball - Section VI Class AA semifinals at Sweet Home

2-Frontier vs. 6-Lancaster, 5:30 p.m.

Frontier and Lancaster get an all-ECIC I Class AA semifinal started at Sweet Home. The Falcons and Legends split their regular season meetings, with Frontier winning, 50-34, on Feb. 3 and Lancaster winning, 58-43, four days later. Now the teams meet on a neutral court.

1-Clarence vs. 4-Jamestown, 7:30 p.m.

Clarence swept Jamestown, 53-42 and 41-21, in ECIC I play this year. Ella Rose Eckert (13.4 ppg), Carly Reynolds (11 ppg) and Lauren Cullinan (10.3 ppg) all average double figures for the Red Devils. Red Raiders sophomore Allison Stockwell leads the team in scoring at 10.5 ppg.

3. Boys swimming - State Championships

The best in Western New York swimming head to the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island for Friday's swimming preliminaries and diving finals. Swimming starts at 10:30 a.m., while diving starts at 1 p.m.

Olean's Seth Farrand (50 free, 100 free) and Hamburg's Luke Kennedy (100 breaststroke) are ranked highly in their respective events. Click here to see how WNY's participants are seeded in each event.

Saturday's swimming finals start at 10:30 a.m.
