Nearly 3,000 without power in Erie County; Route 5 traffic signals are out

NYSEG reported that outages are affecting 2,414 customers across Erie County. The biggest outage is in Sardinia with 1,023 customers without power.

National Grid reported several hundred customers affected in Buffalo and Hamburg.

The Town of Hamburg Police reported numerous traffic signals were out on Route 5. Police urged motorists to drive cautiously.

High winds were blamed for the collapse of a canopy housing the gas pumps at a West Main Street gas station in Batavia, a Batavia police dispatcher said. Many downed trees were also reported throughout the area.

Wind gusts of 60 mph or more were expected this evening, according to the National Weather Service. At 9:59 p.m. Thursday, 51 mph winds were recorded at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
