Union Road in Williamsville has been looking less green since a project to widen the road was completed and trees weren't replaced, according to village officials.
The village is seeking a grant through the state Department of Environmental Conservation to plant trees on the eastern side of Union Road.
"We want to do both [sides] but the state won't allow us to plant trees in that narrow right-of-way on the west side because of snow storage," said Deputy Mayor Daniel O. DeLano.
The grant is available through the DEC's Urban Forestry Grant program. The village would contribute at least 25 percent of the cost. The trees would be planted once a project to replace sidewalks on Union Road is complete, DeLano said.
A village-wide tree planting is planned for May 6, he added. The village has been replanting trees lost from the October 2006 ice storm.
"There's a couple streets that are still pretty bare," DeLano said.
