Pedestrian killed in North Tonawanda may have been hit by two cars

NORTH TONAWANDA – Police have identified and interviewed the driver of a car that struck a North Tonawanda man Monday night.

But they're also looking into the possibility that James W. Edel, 53, may have been struck by another car first.

Edel died from injuries suffered after being struck at about 10:26 p.m. on the 900 block of Erie Avenue, which is between Walck Road and Sherwood Avenue, North Tonawanda police said.

Edel was a scoutmaster and assistant scoutmaster in the North Tonawanda area from 2001 through 2011, according to a representative of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also was active with his daughters' Girl Scout troop from 2003 through 2016, according to a representative of the Girl Scouts of Western New York.

Police are seeking help from the public in their investigation. They are asking anyone in the area of Erie Avenue between Walck and Niagara Falls Boulevard between 10 and 10:30 p.m. who may have witnessed what happened or saw someone walking to call detectives at 716-692-4312.
