The Market in the Square's meat department has been overhauled to introduce new, designer beef.
Beginning Wednesday, the West Seneca grocery store will primarily sell Simply Essentials beef, which it says is healthier and better tasting than regular beef.
The Simply Essentials program has been in development for 15 years. The steers in the program are fed a proprietary diet incorporating flax seeds during the last two months of their lives. That brings the cholesterol content down and the Omega 3 content up. The Simple Essentials strip loin, for example, has 42 percent less cholesterol and 292 percent more Omega 3. The store says the meat is more flavorful, tender and juicy as well.
Market in the Square is located in the Southgate Plaza on Union Road in West Seneca. Simply Essentials LLC is a Kansas-based protein company backed by a private equity firm.
