No opponent yet faces County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr., but the union representing more than 1,500 blue collar workers is already endorsing the Republican incumbent.
“Our union support even comes before his own party has made an endorsement,” said Richard Canazzi, president of AFSCME Local 1095. “We are doing so in an early and strong way because we are judging him on his actions. Not typical, political rhetoric.”
The move marks the first time the union has endorsed a Republican comptroller.
Democrats have yet to settle on an opponent to face Mychajliw in November.
