Diner owner charged following fire in Castile

CASTILE – The owner of the Castile Diner has been charged with allegedly starting the fire that burned the business shortly after midnight on Feb. 15, according to Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory J. Rudolph.

Amy S. Goodenow, 36, of Castile, was arraigned in Castile Village Court on a charge of third-degree arson, authorities said.

She was at the scene during the fire, which was reported to the sheriff’s office at 12:30 a.m., according to Rudolph.

The two-alarm blaze at 125 S. Main St. was put out by Castile firefighters, assisted by companies from Nunda, Pike, Silver Springs and Warsaw.

Damage was estimated at $150,000, authorities said.

A fire and criminal investigation determined that the fire had been deliberately set, according to Rudolph.

Goodenow owns the diner business, but another person is the owner of the building, according to authorities.

Goodenow was released on $5,000 bail, authorities said. She is due to return to court April 3.
