An off-duty City of Tonawanda police officer stopped a residential burglary in progress  Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officer Adam Cruz noticed a woman acting suspiciously on Tussing Lane and saw her enter the side door a home at about 2:30 p.m. while the homeowner was outside in a side yard, City of Tonawanda police said.

Cruz, who completed the police academy last week and is still in field training, went inside and found the woman ransacking drawers. She told the officer she was a visiting nurse, a claim that turned out to be untrue, police said.

Jennifer L. Dee, 38, of Hinds Street in the City of Tonawanda, was charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny. She was held on $100,000 bail, police said.
