Dense fog advisory issued through Thursday at noon

Visibility on area roadways tonight could be cut sharply due to fog, the National Weather Service reported.

A dense fog advisory is posted from 2 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday for northern Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee counties.

Forecasters caution that hazardous driving conditions are possible due to heavy fog especially east of Lake Erie and south of Lake Ontario.

Areas north of the Thruway are especially vulnerable to heavy fog tonight, according to the forecast.

The fog is being generated by warm moist air flowing across the cool, open waters of the lakes.
