What to watch for Monday
1. Boys hockey - Niagara Cup semifinals at HarborCenter
A Catholic hockey doubleheader gets Monday all to itself. Winners advance to the Niagara Cup final, which is next Monday at the KeyBank Center at 4 p.m.
1-St. Joe's vs. 4-St. Francis, 6:30 p.m.
The top-seeded Marauders (22-1-2) have won three of the last four Niagara Cups and haven't lost in the semifinals since 2012. They're one of the top teams in the state and are clearly the team to beat in the Catholic playoffs. St. Joe's, which has won 19 of its last 20 games since its lone loss to Orchard Park, beat St. Francis, 6-1, back on Jan. 26.
The Red Raiders (10-9-0-1) finished in the middle of the pack in Division 3, with their top wins coming against Grand Island and West Seneca East twice. St. Francis has lost to St. Joe's in the semifinals the past two seasons by identical 8-0 scores.
2-Bishop Timon-St. Jude vs. 3-Canisius, 8:30 p.m.
The Crusaders (13-9-3) have eliminated the Tigers (10-13) in the semifinals the past two seasons, 3-2 in 2015 and 3-0 last year.
Canisius won a 7-1 game against Timon on Dec. 5, but the Tigers returned the favor on Dec. 29 with a 4-1 win of their own.
Canisius went on to end St. Joe's two-year reign of the Niagara Cup in 2015, but lost to the eventual Catholic state champ Marauders last season. Timon hasn't made it to the championship game since playing at the home of the Sabres back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014. Both of those were losses to St. Joe's.
