Connor Mergler of Buffalo State won the 100 freestyle in 44.86 seconds Saturday, his third championship of the meet in the State University of New York Athletic Conference men's and women's swimming and diving championships at the Burt Flickinger Aquatics Center. Previously, the former Williamsville North swimmer had won the 50 freestyle and tied for first in the 200 free. The junior accounted for 58.5 of the Bengals' 281 points in the meet.
Geneseo dominated the men's meet as expected, capturing its sixth straight title with 989 points. The Blue Knights finished 1 through 5 in the 1,650 freestyle and 1-2-3 in the 200 backstroke, as an example of their dominance. Buffalo State finished ninth aftter a third place in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Cody Wittmeyer, Daniel Kuznetsov, Ryan McHale and Mergler.
Geneseo also won the women's team title with 929 points. Buffaloo State was ninth with 65 points.
In the Atlantic 10 Conference meet at Geneva, Ohio, St. Bonaventure produced no first-place finishers Saturday. Bona's best finishes were a second place by Devon McFadden in the 200 backstroke (1:59.29) and a third by Press Schilling in the men's 200 breaststroke (1:59.90) and a third by freshman Austin Childs in the 3-meter diving with 293.35 points in the finals
Richmond won the women's team title with 570 points. Bona was 10th with 187.5
George Washington walked away with the men's team title with 562.5 points. St. Bonaventure was seventh with 391 after a fourth-place finish in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay.
