Owner: Not enough consumers yet to sustain Main Street store

Furnishings, a posh home decor and gift store at 500 Main St., will close.

Joe Incao, a former vice president at Prada, opened the store in 2015 hoping to be part of downtown's resurgence. Ultimately, he realized he had come in years too early, he said.

"There is just not the density needed to sustain a business that is not need-based, nor is there an economy in this area that has the disposable income needed," Incao said.

Originally an aspirational retailer selling high-priced goods, Furnishings adjusted its inventory to suit the surrounding market, pricing 60 percent of its stock under $40.

"I just could not get enough people in the door to make this work," Incao said, adding later, "I guess I was just ahead of my time."

The store will close at the end of the month. An inventory liquidation sale is ongoing.
