Elizabeth L. Hadrych, of Buffalo, a real estate entrepreneur and businesswoman, died Feb. 6 in Buffalo General Medical Center after a short illness. She was 87.
Born Elizabeth Smith in Buffalo, she owned used car dealerships on the city’s East Side and in the Chautauqua County community of Ellington, where she and her husband had a vacation home.
Mrs. Hadrych converted her home on Buffalo’s West Side into an apartment house for SUNY Buffalo State students. She also maintained several rental properties in the city and suburbs.
An amateur artist, she did oil paintings of rural scenes, still lifes and portraits. Well-informed on current events, she was an outspoken conservative known on radio call-in shows as “Betty Birch.”
Her husband of 35 years, Benedict, a chemical engineer, died in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Dana Caple and Kurt Caple; a daughter, Heidi Newfell; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Amigone Funeral Home, 1132 Delaware Ave.
