Man, 77, killed in Dunkirk ambulance crash

A 77-year-old Dunkirk man died Tuesday when an ambulance in which he was being transported left the road and crashed on Route 5 in the Town of Dunkirk, according to State Police.

The crash occurred while the man was in transit to a nursing home, State Police said.

Arthur R. McArthur was being transported from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Erie to a nursing home in Chautauqua County when the crash occurred, at about 5:40 p.m., according to State Police.

The EmergyCare ambulance was traveling east on Route 5 when it apparently left the road, went into a ditch and struck a culvert, according to troopers.

The 49-year-old driver of the ambulance was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to State Police.
