LOCKPORT - Lockport attorney Patrick M. Balkin has announced he will run for a Niagara County Family Court judgeship in this fall's election.
Balkin has been an attorney for 33 years, mostly in private practice in Lockport. Since 2004, Balkin has been a part-time attorney for the Niagara County Social Services Department, representing the county in Family Court and State Supreme Court. For 28 years, Balkin has accepted court assignments to represent the interests of children in divorce and family law cases.
He has been a partner in the firm of Jackson & Balkin since 1999. His practice has emphasized matrimonial and family law, criminal defense and bankruptcy cases.
Balkin becomes the second attorney seeking to replace the retiring Judge John F. Batt. Wheatfield Town Justice Erin P. DeLabio also has announced her candidacy.
“Family Court is a court that requires a judge who has knowledge and experience that covers a wide variety of legal areas. I have represented thousands of Niagara County residents. I believe that I possess the legal knowledge, expertise and temperament to be an effective and fair Family Court judge for Niagara County," Balkin said.
