Water poured into the Hamburg town fitness center on Route 5, down the stairs and out the back door down to Lake Erie late last month after a water main break at the Town Park.
"Just to fix the main line was $6,413," Highway Superintendent Tom Best Sr. told the Town Board on Monday night.
It will cost another $12,900 to fix the sidewalk, he said. The break was discovered Jan. 30, a Monday, and could have been leaking for two days, he said.
"We closed it for two days," he said. "All that water went right into the fitness center, down the stairs pouring out the back door."
He said town crews have repaired damage inside the building, including repainting. The hole in the sidewalk was filled in and temporarily patched with stone.
Best said that was just one of two building emergencies in the past couple weeks. The second was a boiler burner at the Nike Base that needed to be replaced for $7,700.
Town Board members told him to submit the bills for repairs to the town supervisor's office, and they would be treated as emergency capital repairs.
