Valentine's Day isn't just for flowers and traditional chocolate anymore.
Lovers with a wicked sense of humor may want to get to Sweet Jenny’s (5732 Main St. and the Mill, 56 E. Spring St., Williamsville) or its sister location Oh Pour L’amour Du Chocolat (4476 Main St., Snyder) for an anatomical chocolate heart ($9.99).
Owner Howard Cadmus tells us the hearts are true to size, like the one beating in your chest right now.
“The hearts are the size and shape. Everything like a real human heart. The detail is correct down to the ventricles,” he said. (We wonder how they made that chocolate mold?)
“The cool thing is we are selling them all over the United States because of Facebook and Instagram. We have recipients of heart transplants, heart surgeons and clinics calling,” Cadmus said.
The Dessert Deli (716 Maple Road, Williamsville and 6429 Transit Road, East Amherst) sells tons of beautifully decorated heart cut outs — to the tune of more than 3,500 — the week of Valentine's. (Our hearts go out to the workers who have to ice them all.)
Owner Trish Mullaney said Dessert Deli also will have Valentine’s cupcakes, six-inch chocolate heart cakes and decadent flourless chocolate heart cakes for your love fest.
“Quite honestly this is the largest winter holiday,” said Mullaney. “People do love celebrating it.”
Dessert Deli’s Maple Road location will stay open until 9 p.m. Feb. 13 and to 10 p.m. Feb. 14 for procrastinators. Normally closed Mondays, the Transit Road location will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 13.
If a cheesy pizza is your thing, you have options.
Luigi's Pizza & Catering (9950 Transit Road, East Amherst) is among the places offering heart-shaped pizzas for Valentine's Day. In size, it is equivalent to the pizzeria's large pizza. Pre-order is the best way to order for Valentine's Day, but Luigi's will take call-ins, too. And if you miss Feb. 14, Luigi's will be making the heart-shaped pies through the weekend.
Mark Campanella of Just Pizza (multiple locations) tells us they are taking orders for the famous heart-shaped pizza that is served only once per year — on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.
The tradition dates back to 1996, and pre-ordering is the best way to ensure that you get a pizza that comes in its own clever box, “We don’t break hearts. Pizza served uncut.”
Ah, we love it all.
