Angola man rescued after fall at Town of Hamburg park

A 20-year-old Angola man was rescued about 4:30 p.m. Saturday after he slipped and fell down an embankment near the raging waters of 18 Mile Creek in the Town of Hamburg.

Emergency responders from  Hamburg and the Eden who rushed to 18 Mile Creek Park  said the victim was alert when lifted up to the hiking path. The man, whose name was not released, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by Mercy Flight to  Erie County Medical Center, where he was undergoing treatment.

Police said the victim  strayed from the hiking path and slipped on wet leaves and mud while trying to make his way to the creek. Town Authorities  stressed that park hikers are instructed to  remain  on  marked trails.
