Another big finish punctuated the latest meeting between the St. Francis and Park boys basketball teams.
Once again the Red Raiders hit the biggest shots with this Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association clash hanging in the balance.
Bo Sireika's three-pointer with 95 seconds left in overtime gave St. Francis the lead for good as the Buffalo News' top-ranked large school defeated the Pioneers, 54-53, before a sellout crowd of more than 700.
The win enables the Red Raiders to remain alone in first place in the MMHSAA.
Brandon Smith missed a trey at the buzzer from the left corner on Park's last possession. The Pioneers tied it twice in the final 60 seconds of regulation to force overtime.
The last time: It's pretty hard to top the drama of the previous meeting between the teams. St. Francis rallied from a 19-point halftime deficit at Park en route to a double overtime win, 70-66.
Sireika's three-pointer to open the second OT gave St. Francis the lead for good in that one. Sean Taggert and Devon Darrell also scored big baskets in that frame to help the Red Raiders get the eye-opening win over the then top-ranked team in the state.
Rankings: St. Francis is ranked first in the News' Large School poll, while Park is No. 3.
Records: St. Francis is 17-4 overall and 10-1 in league. Park is 14-4, 7-3.
Next: St. Francis visits Bishop Timon-St. Jude on Tuesday, while Park hosts St. Joe's on Monday.
