Amherst residents upset over Hartford Road shooting

Some residents of Hartford Road upset about a Jan. 28 shooting on their street complained to the Amherst Town Board this week.

Residents told the Town Board on Monday that there had been prior problems at 93 Hartford Road, where the shooting occurred.

Amherst Police Chief John Askey told the residents the shooting is being ''actively investigated'' and they are safe because the shooting involved a dispute over ''involvement in criminal activity.'' Askey also told the nervous residents ''there is a suspect because of witness reports.''

Police patrols have been checking local hotels and motels in the search for the shooter, according to Amherst Police reports.

Amherst Police are trying to track down a man with dreadlocks in his hair who repeatedly shot a man who lived at 93 Hartford Road at 8:24 a.m. Jan. 28. A witness told Amherst Police the shooter wore a blue jacket and got into a ''bright red'' SUV driven by another man before they drove off after the shooting.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center. His name has not been released by police and his condition could not be learned Thursday.
