Faulty cable interrupts power to 780 National Grid customers

A faulty underground electrical cable is being blamed for a National Grid power outage Thursday that interrupted service to about 780 customers in the vicinity of Canisius College.

"We had an underground cable fault out on us. To repair an underground cable sometimes, literally, they have go manhole to manhole just to see if they can find where the fault is," said Stephen Brady, a regional spokesman for National Grid.

Brady said said the outage occurred shortly before 3 p.m. and power has since been restored to 425 customers. He said power should be restored to all of those affected before 9 p.m.
