Evans Bank is targeting a new growth opportunity: municipal banking.
The Hamburg-based bank has established a government banking department and named Marc P. O'Hearn as director of government banking. O'Hearn most recently worked in that business segment for First Niagara Bank.
David J. Nasca, Evans' president and CEO, said in a conference call with analysts this week that the acquisition of First Niagara by KeyBank, along with some larger financial institutions leaving the municipal business, created an opening for Evans.
O'Hearn has 30 years of experience in banking and financial services, including previous roles at KeyBank and JPMorgan Chase.
