Possible attempted sexual abuse reported on UB's North Campus

A female University at Buffalo student told police she was attacked early Monday morning on the university's North Campus.

The incident, which police said involved the report of "an attempted assault, possibly an attempted sexual abuse," happened at about 2:30 a.m. outside in the area of Core Road near the Ellicott Complex's Millard Fillmore Academic Center.

UB police initially said they were investigating a report of sexual assault. The victim told police the assailants were two males.

Police declined to release further information about the incident.

"For the privacy of our students, and the University at Buffalo will not disclose case-specific facts or details about any ongoing investigation," a university spokesman said in an emailed statement.

UB officials sent an alert about the incident via text message and email at 3:25 a.m. to about 45,000 students, faculty and staff, the university said.

University police ask anyone with information to call them at (716) 645-2222. Police said they are increasing patrols on the North Campus in response to the incident.
