The City of Tonawanda School District will offer open registration for its universal pre-kindergarten program on March 3 and 6. The class is open to district students who will turn 4-years-old by Dec. 1.
In order to be considered, the child must reside within City of Tonawanda boundaries.
The pre-K is a free half-day (2.5 hour) program, Mondays through Fridays. Parents must provide transportation to and from the program.
Three sites are available: at Riverview Elementary, 55 Taylor Drive, which will offer morning or afternoon sessions; or morning sessions only at both Child's Creative Development Center (CCDC), 138 Delaware Ave., or St. Francis of Assisi, 70 Adam St.
Registration packets are available at all City of Tonawanda elementary schools, the Board of Education district office, 100 Hinds St.; St. Francis; and the Tonawanda Public Library, 333 Main St. You may also download a registration from the district website at www.tonawandacsd.org and clicking on the red UPK icon.
A parent or guardian must attend one of two registration sessions which will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. March 3 at Fletcher Elementary, 555 Fletcher St., or at the district office on Hinds Street from 8 to 11:30 a.m. or 2 to 3 p.m. March 6.
No appointments are necessary and it should take about 10 minutes to complete the registration process. All slots will be filled on a first come/first served basis. The program is limited to 80 and if more than 80 apply there will be a lottery for spots at 1 p.m. March 8 at the district office.
