Eight cited for fake licenses in sweep of Elmwood bars

State Police officers and investigators from the state Department of Motor Vehicles conducted a check of licenses at two popular Elmwood Avenue bars early Sunday.

According to police, some 300 patrons' licenses were checked at Cole's and Mr. Goodbar on Elmwood Avenue as part of an underage drinking enforcement detail.

Eight patrons were found to have fictitious or fraudulent licenses, which is a violation of the state Vehicle and Traffic Law. The eight were cited and released to return to the Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency at a later date, according to state police.

Officers from State Police offices in Clarence and Boston carried out the checks.
