Students, Girl Scouts treated to showing of 'Hidden Figures'

More than 250 Buffalo  School students, teachers and  and Girl Scouts were treated Saturday  to a free showing of "Hidden Figures," the Oscar-contending movie about three African-American women who were the mathematical and engineering brains behind NASA's first manned space missions.

The free showing in the Elmwood Regal Theater was sponsored by AT&T, WNY STEM Hub and Girl Scouts of WNY.  The showing was designed to inspire education and career paths in science, technology, engineering and math and to bridge gender and diversity gaps in the technology industry.

Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown delivered opening remarks and proclaimed Saturday “Girls Coding Day in Buffalo.”
