Falls landlord accused of ax attack on tenant

NIAGARA FALLS  - An 86-year-old man is accused of attacking one of his tenants with an ax early Friday on Niagara Avenue, Niagara Falls  police said.

Hans T. Weber, 86, is charged with a felony second-degree assault and  second-degree menacing.

The victim told police he  heard someone shaking the door handle to his bedroom and saw the intruder grab the ax from beside the door. He told police he activated his cellphone video camera and confronted the suspect, who swung the ax at him, hitting him on his left forearm and his head.

Other tenants halted the attack, police said. The victim was treated in the emergency room of  Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, then released.

Police, who  said they found Weber asleep in his bed, did not elaborate on a motive for the attack.
