Keep up momentum with Buffalo Billion II
The News recently published comments alleging that members of the Western New York state legislative delegation, including myself, were somehow not supportive of the next phase of the Buffalo Billion program. Let me be very clear, these comments were not accurate. In fact, last October I met with Empire State Development President Howard Zemsky and offered my ideas on how we could move forward with the next phase of the Buffalo Billion.
I am pleased to see that my ideas for restoring the DL&W Terminal, expanding the Metro Rail and redeveloping the steel plant site in Lackawanna were incorporated into the executive budget proposal. The Buffalo Billion has helped to restore confidence in our region, and the next phase can be a major driver of this momentum. Over the past few years, there has been a renewed sense of hope for our region. We have been able to shake off the troubles of the past, and set a new course for success.
In my view, the next phase of the Buffalo Billion could be even more consequential than the first phase. For too long, divisive politics have held back our region. We should work together to pass a budget and deliver an even brighter future for Buffalo and Western New York.
