Lockport woman indicted in stabbing of landlord

LOCKPORT - Bail was set at $250,000 Thursday for a city of Lockport woman accused of stabbing her landlord in the head and neck Dec. 16.

Damone M. Clayton, 31, of Ohio Street, pleaded not guilty in State Supreme Court to an indictment charging her with attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.

Niagara County Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said Clayton attacked Ethel Moore, 68, in a dwelling at Caledonia and Prospect streets in Lockport. Moore ran outside and the driver of a passing school bus stopped to assist her.

Hoffmann said Clayton lives in another building Moore owns, but Moore said she knew of no issues between her and Clayton, so the reason for the attack is unknown. The prosecutor said Moore is recovering well.
