NIAGARA FALLS - Police charged a man with aggravated driving while intoxicated Monday morning in Hyde Park, according to a police report.
A vehicle driven by Rodney L. Smith, 32, of Niagara Falls, was pulled over at about 4:30 a.m. in a parking lot at the park. Smith drove into and out of a parking lot off Robbins Drive near the Oasis shelter three times, according to the report. After the third instance, an officer parked in the lot initiated a traffic stop.
Smith pulled into a different lot and then got out of his car and started walking towards Pine Avenue, the report said. The officer told Smith to return to his vehicle, but Smith then started running. He was apprehended after he fell near Pine Avenue, according to the report.
Smith failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent while being processed, according to the police report. I
n addition to aggravated DWI, Smith was also charged with resisting arrest, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving without a license and failing to stop at a stop sign.
