Two new City of Tonawanda police officers are sworn in

Family, friends and fellow officers welcomed two new police officers to the City of Tonawanda Police Department with swearing in ceremonies and a reception at City Hall on Wednesday.

Officers Adam J. Cruz and Kyle J. Gallivan will start at the Central Police Academy at Erie County Community College's north campus on Monday.

Both new officers grew up in the City of Tonawanda, Cruz a 2006 graduate of Tonawanda High School and Gallivan, a 2012 graduate.

Cruz already attended the Academy and served for two years on the police auxiliary. He said he will complete firearms training and be able to "hit the ground running" and take what he called a long-awaited spot on the force.

"It's nice to be able to serve as an officer and give back to your hometown," said Cruz.

Gallivan also said it was his lifelong ambition to be a police officer and was excited for this new opportunity. He said he had previously worked as a high school football coach and had also been employed by city parks.

There are a total of 28 officers on the City of Tonawanda Police force, including the two new officers.
