Orvis Buffalo, 4545 Transit Road, Clarence has announced that they will once again be offering free fly tying classes for six consecutive Saturdays starting Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. If you always want to learn to tie your own flies, this is some great start-up instruction by some local experts. All the tools and materials are supplied by Orvis Buffalo, sharing a passion for the outdoors and furthering the growth of the angling community. Space is limited. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, call the shop at 276-7200 to pre-register. Incidentally, one of the show managers, Adam Schroeder, will be giving a talk on fly fishing at the Niagara Fishing Expo on Saturday.

Pistol License Recertification Set

If your pistol permit was issued before Jan. 15, 2013, you are required under the SAFE Act to complete a recertification process by Jan. 31, 2018. Until now, there was no process in place and there is no specific plan to notify pistol permit license-holders. You will have to remember to do this on your own every five years, according to the New York State Conservation Council. Upon completion of the process, you will be notified with your next due date for recertification. You may submit your information online or you may print out an application and submit it by mail.
