Michael Beardi, retired Lancaster teacher and coach

Michael Beardi, of New Port Richey, Fla., a retired Lancaster teacher and coach, died Jan. 4 in Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, New Port Richey, from injuries suffered when he was struck by a car while trying to cross an intersection on his bicycle. He was 74.

Born in Buffalo, he was a 1960 graduate of Baker Victory High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Canisius College.

Mr. Beardi was a middle school and high school science teacher in the Lancaster schools from 1970 to 2005 and was a golf and tennis coach. He also was an adjunct professor at Canisius College from 1999 to 2005. He retired to the Tampa Bay area.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Joan Krier; five sons, Damian, David, Michael, Joseph and Mikey; a daughter, Carmella; a brother, James; a sister, Angela; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Trinity, Fla. A memorial Mass in the Buffalo area will be arranged.
