Emily Smith, a Grand Island native who started her broadcasting career at WBEN-AM, is engaged to actor Steve Guttenberg.
Smith, now a reporter at WCBS-TV in New York City, confirmed the star of such films as “Three Men and a Baby,” multiple “Police Academy” movies and “Cocoon,” popped the question over the holidays.
The St. Bonaventure University graduate also posted a photo on Twitter while she and Guttenberg were on an airplane, which made one wonder if they were headed to Western New York.

In a Facebook message exchange, Smith gave the same answer she gave Guttenberg when he asked her to marry him a few days earlier: “Yes.”
“We had Christmas on Grand Island with my mom and dad and siblings,” wrote Smith. “And he proposed to me at my grandparents’ former home by their dock (a mile from her parents’ home). Best memories of my life there.”
“He asked my dad before he asked me. And so sweet.”
Smith said she and Guttenberg have been dating for 20 months after meeting through a mutual friend, Scott Rapoport, a WCBS reporter.
It is the first marriage for Smith, who is 39, the second for the 58-year-old Guttenberg.
“I see no age difference,” wrote Smith. “Just a number.”
Asked to name her favorite Guttenberg movies, Smith wrote “Three Men and a Baby” and “Police Academy Citizens on Patrol,” which may be better known as “Police Academy 4.”
Smith said that no wedding date has been set, adding "probably fall."
