After the unrepentant dumpster fire that has been 2016, there’s a decent chance you might want to float into your next calendar flip on a reassuringly fluffy cloud of hooks and grooves.
Or beats. Lots and lots of pulsating beats.
Enter the forthcoming domain of Ithaca’s Jimkata, who’ll give electro-pop revelers a soothing ride into New Year’s Day when it headlines Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) at 8 p.m. Dec. 31. Touring off this year’s full-length synth celebration “In Motion,” the trio of Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch and Packy Lunn have specialized in swirling, laser-lit club tracks for more than a decade. And with the new album featuring anthemic tracks like “Older and Wonder” and “Build Me Up” leading the way, longtime followers will find new live material to cherish.
But for those who simply need a way to smile and sway into 2017, Jimkata — with opening support from fellow New Yorkers SMACKDAB, Drop D and Buffalo tribute collective Lazlo Holyfield, who will cover the work of LCD Soundsystem — should provide a danceable antidote to put the past dozen months of repetitious dread in the rearview. If only for a few hours.
Tickets are $20 (box office, ticketfly.com).
