JAMESTOWN – Flames ripped through a Jamestown church early Monday, causing what appears to be a total loss.
The Post-Journal reported that Jamestown city firefighters were dispatched shortly before 2 a.m. for a report of a structure fire at 291 Falconer St. They found smoke coming from the rear of the brick building. The church was engulfed in flames moments later, and the city department had to put out a call for off-duty firefighters to respond, according to the Post-Journal.
The roof of the building collapsed within an hour of the firefighters’ arrival at the scene.
The building was home of the First Church of God.
