Cheektowaga garage fire causes $40,000 damage

A garage fire at 27 Wellington Road in Cheektowaga Friday night did an estimated $40,000 damage to the building and its contents, according to Chief Brian Chapman of the U-Crest Fire Company.

Chapman said no one was hurt in the fire, which was reported at about 6:20 p.m. He said the cause was under investigation, but it appeared the problem may have been electrical.

It was a detached garage, and there was no damage to nearby homes, Chapman said. No one was in the garage at the time of the fire.

The U-Crest volunteers were assisted at the scene by members of the Forks and Hy-View fire companies, while the Cleveland Hill fire company was placed on standby duty at the U-Crest hall.
